Your Guest Room needs YOU Dollbaby!

There's lots of folks out there who get all jazzed up hardcore about the MAIN rooms in their homes...some w/ a rabid-like fury: there's foaming at the mouth, endless pinning on Pinterest 'til fingers bleed, overspending on shiot they don't need & may or may not be ugly -- except for when it concerns the guest bedroom! More often than not, this room gets phoned in...All the jank, leftover flotsam & jetsam from previous houses/life stations'/relationships past, etc...lands here & guess what kidz? It's usually not cute. Such is the case with one of my current projects. Truth be told, this specific guest room isn't THAT bad, but I can amp up the drama here b/c I've already done the majority of the other rooms in the house & this is a BLOG afterall where drama equals eyeballzzz! Meet Disa's Guest Room, that for some reason we nicknamed Nacho Platter...

That queen got shoved in a corner w/out a bedframe or her dignity, the poor Betch...at least it's a pretty window!

Ughhh I KNOW they're practical & really functional, blah blah blah...but goodlawdgawd that ceiling fan is an extra special specimen of heinous...

Wall color?: Mellow Yellow & Grape Shag Patch?: a carpet remnant from a different room...

And OF COURSE there's a giant A$$ TV devouring that dining room heirloom of '99 (AND the majority of the wall too...)

Put a runner under it and it goes from 'day to night chic' so effortlessly...WHAT?

Put a runner under it and it goes from 'day to night chic' so effortlessly...WHAT?

Uh huh, and make no MISTAKE, that's ANOTHER Grape Shag Patch twerking herself halfway under that trunk in the distant room...'cause y'all know, all trunks need something soft & supple underfoot while doing all their trunk duties...f&$k the rest of the hardwood floor, we're leaving it bare as all get OUT!!! #bareback ohhhh....!

OK, so there's quite an extensive plan of attack on Nacho Platter...and in FULL DISCLOSURE, work has already begun on this room. And is actually almost done...here's the overall design plan that's more or less being followed:

I mean, can y'all stand all that 'liciuosness?! It's being repainted, new overhead light, new tv surround, new bedding, new rug, new art & probably what i'm most excited about is the new window treatment/headboard/shutter situ...uh huh, you read that right! B/c of limited wall space for logical bed placement, we have to leave that Queen exactly where we found her-- poor thing- but it's gonna be ALL GOOD 'cause she's getting a combo custom linen tufted headboard/shutter situation that, IF IT WORKS, is gonna #styleslap us all sixteen ways to Sunday!  Here's my rough sketch of it...

So, we've already modified this initial design slightly in that there will now be four shutters, two over two, on the main window, which will ALSO serve as our headboard & allow for maximum window/light control functionality...the two smaller side windows are getting simple curtain panels out of the same linen. Same linen floor-to-ceiling panels will also cover the other window in the room. Then we're affixing faux mercury glass panels made from plexiglass to the ceiling, bottom insets and small outer wing walls for TOTAL GLAM CHIC ECSTASY!!! THAT project in and of itself is its' OWN post, as will be the headboard/shutter situ, but here's a peek at what plexiglass treated with a faux mercury mirror treatment looks like:

The #hawtness right?! Imagine this mercury plexi with our navy paint peeking through here and there! AHhhhhhhhhhh! I want to add that the budget for this room, btw, isn't huge AT ALL, which is why there's quite a lot of DIY going on. I share this b/c obvi, guest bedrooms aren't where most peeps want to invest & I totally get that. But, hopefully this post and the DIY projects I share later will inspire y'all to go get your Guest Room On with the same voracity that you have for your main rooms!
